Capers Trailer B

Connie, a local pawn shop owner and designated ‘Don’ of her rundown Brooklyn neighborhood, spends each day staring out her window, lamenting the state of the world. As her grandson Dougie sits silently glued to his movie player, various criminals pass in and out of the shop, each enduring Connie’s hilariously racist barbs. Fitz and Dino are “The Mateurs,” petty thieves who dream of a big score but who find themselves trapped in a grainy, early 1970’s antihero movie. Ronald and Maya are “The Moolies,” loan sharks who are drowning in debtg and who can’t seem to escape a life that looks like a rap video. And “The Sputniks,” Lana and Slava, are desperate refugees from Chechnya who want to brighten their morose, black-and-white existence by becoming American.

Each team decides that robbing Connie is the quickest way out of the ghetto, but none is aware that the others have planned the same score on the same night. What follows could variously be described as an ensemble comedy, heist film review, genre mashup, and an ode to New York City and its colorful characters.
