Xabi (Gorka Otxoa) has carved out quite the life for himself in Barcelona, his career as an economist on the rise and his relationship with the lovely Nerea (Bárbara Goenaga) going well—though he has other options available on that front. When he’s contacted by old friends and informed that college acquaintance Maria (Sara Cozar) is suffering from a terminal disease, he returns to his old haunts of Bilbao; and when they inform him that Maria has never gotten over her unrequited love for Xabi, he decides to sweeten her final days by pretending he’s always felt the same for her. The declaration enlivens not only Maria’s spirit, but her body as well; soon she’s rallying back to health, with each day bringing a new, sunnier prognosis. And speaking of medical updates, Nerea informs Xabi that she’s pregnant. His lies to both women colliding as they start spiraling out of control, Xabi frantically strains to juggle old ties and new obligations.
