Brahman Naman Feature Trailer (2016)
Feature trailer for Brahman Naman, which is now going to be distributed by Netflix.
Brahman Naman is a comedy film set in the 80's and revolves around the misadventures of Naman and his friends in their quest to lose their virginity.
This sex comedy from overseas started to turn heads when it premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Hollywood Reporter greatly enjoyed the film, though they do acknowledge that, besides the setting, it was formulaic, and Variety described the film is humorous, though complained that it could have had some more laugh-out-loud moments. Dropping a dose of Nostradamus on its readers, the publication went on to predict that the film will likely have no issue finding a home format distributor. In comes Netflix...
Any trailer that begins with a "Warning!" statement involving dry humping, one can't help but be curious about what's to follow. The trailer for Brahman Naman feels like an Indian Napoleon Dynamite, but with tons more hormones. It's so sexual that I can't help but wonder how much better it would have been if was released as a red band (R-rated) version. Wishful thinking, I guess.
By the end of the preview it becomes clear what Variety was seeing. While this film looks like an entertaining comedy, it likely would have had issues finding an audience willing to come to theaters. Instead, the film should have no problem finding an expanded viewership on Netflix. We'll be sure to check it out.
