Trailer for Bombay Summer, which screened at the 2009 Hawaii International Film Festival.

Bombay Summer explores the fleeting and delicate friendship between three young people and its eventual disintegration in the face of betrayal and personal loss. Set in contemporary India, the film subtly mirrors the turmoil within tradition bound Indian society as it copes with change and rapid modernization.

At the center of the story is Geeta, a young woman who leads a full life and a busy career. She is also adept at balancing the conflicting needs of family and life in modern India. But today, new experiences are open to her and she grabs them with relish. She is in the middle of an affair with Jaidev, a struggling writer who is slowly coming to grips with his own life.

Coming from a rich, traditional family Jaidev is used to having things taken care of and decisions made for him. Now living on his own he is unsure about the choices he's making.

Their lives take a dramatic turn when they befriend a young migrant to the city. Madan ekes out a living as a commercial artist. But lately, work is hard to come by and he undertakes various illegal ventures to make ends meet. Even though they come from very different backgrounds, the three bond as friends. Interweaving stories of their personal lives, the film follows their journey of self-discovery as Madan leads them to new places and experiences. Ultimately their friendship is put to test as the ramifications of Madans lifestyle threatens to engulf them.
