Blood, Sweat, and Beer (2015) Big Breweries
Clip touches on one of the topics explored in the documentary, how the larger breweries and distributors are losing market share to craft breweries by the minute and how they are coping. Sales are down as well as overall beer consumption, yet craft brewery sales are through the roof and market share continues to grow – now over 11% nationally. One response has been to package and market their product as a beer from a small craft brewery while the biggest response has been to simply buy up the little guys. Just last week news broke that Anheuser-Busch bought LA’s largest craft brewer Golden Road Brewing. Over the past four years the beer-giant has spent an estimated $200 million dollars in four separate transactions involving craft breweries on both coasts.
