As mentioned before, Blockers represents the first ever film that screenwriter Kay Cannon has directed. Not her first major feature, this is the first time she has ever stepped behind the camera. Judging by the trailer, not a bad start! Kay Cannon is instead best known for her writing credits on the Pitch Perfect franchise.
At first I wasn't sure what to think of Blockers, as the cast looked like an odd blend entirely dependent on three familiar comedic faces. But, as a bit of a surprise, the film's comedy seems to be carried more by John Cena than Ike Barinholtz. Whoever decided that John Cena should play a conservative dad -- kudos to you.
