First teaser trailer for Marvel's solo Black Panther, featuring the return of Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa.
Black Panther follows T'Challa who, after the events of "Captain America: Civil War," returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T'Challa's mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
Though it took Marvel Studios to bring this character to the screen, they aren't the first to give Black Panther a go. Back in the 1990s, Columbia Pictures was hoping to ride their comicbook licensing with Wesley Snipes attached to play the character. Though it obviously never happened, Snipes was so excited about the opportunity that he even wrote his own script treatment for the character.
The character represents Marvel's eighteenth film in the MCU and the sixth installment of the studio's "Phase 3".
If Marvel wanted to remain faithful to the source the film would acknowledge that X-Men's Storm is either a love interest of the character or at least an ex-wife. The only catch is that 20th Century Fox still has their fingers on that property, so not going to happen. Would have been a cool crossover, though.
The first thing to love about the Black Panther teaser trailer is the fact that it has no problem reminding audiences that this installment is part of the MCU. A lot of characters you might not have expected to return are most definitely back. And, even better, Andy Serkis's character Klaw seems to get an expanded story here.
But let's get to the film itself. For one, it feels a lot like Guardians of the Galaxy. No, not for the stylings or energy, but for the fact that this film feels like a very different angle to the MCU. While the first Guardians offered something outside what we were used to in regards to Marvel, so will Black Panther.
Other than that, it is just a teaser trailer, so hard to pick up much in regards to the story. But, if one thing is evident, Marvel is now super confident and beginning to really stretch its legs.
