The Take Trailer (2016)

Trailer for Bastille Day.

Michael Mason (Richard Madden, Game Of Thrones) is an American pickpocket living in Paris who finds himself in the hands of the CIA when he steals a bag that contains more than just a wallet. Sean Briar (Idris Elba, Avengers: Age Of Ultron), the field agent on the case, soon realizes that Michael is just a pawn in a much bigger game and is also his best asset to uncover a large-scale criminal conspiracy in the heart of the police force.

Going against commands, Briar recruits Michael to help quickly track down the source of the corruption. As a 24 HR chase ensues, the unlikely duo discover they are both targets and must rely upon each other in order to take down a common enemy.

What is Bastille Day? Bastille Day is the name given in English-speaking countries to the French National Day, which is celebrated on July 14th each year. The French National Day commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, an important event in Paris in a violent revolution that had begun two days earlier. Celebrations are held throughout France with the main event being a grand military parade along the Champs-Élysées, attended by the President of the Republic and other political leaders. It is accompanied by fireworks and public dances in towns throughout the whole of France.

Bastille Day Parade in France

Timely enough, Bastille Day is celebrated every year on July 14th, so the film will be released in France on July13th. All the while other European countries will get to see it months earlier.

You have to be weary on a film that has been delayed for distribution as much as the film has. Principal photography began on October 13, 2014, in Paris and ended on December 17, 2014. The film then had been sitting on the shelf and it was thought that the film would be released in late 2015, but the attack on Paris on November 15, 2015 put in another delay as it was thought it would be in bad taste to release a film like this based in Paris after such a tragic event. A representative for the film said, "In light of the recent tragic events, we’re re-evaluating the timing of the film’s release across Europe."

Bastille Day Trailer Screencap - Idris Elba
With all the speculation and hype over Idris Elba being the potential next Actor to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, this film could not come at a better time. It does a great job at showing Idris' potential or lack there of as a Bond star. I think Idris could pull off the James Bond character as he has the presence, swagger and could hone in his action skills. But this film, Bastille Day, just lacks something in this trailer. It does not get me sucked in wanting to run out and see it in the theaters. I get the feeling that the story line is a bit jumbled and we just got a taste of most of the action scenes in this 2 1/2 minute trailer. Which points to the possible reason why this film has been delayed and yet to receive an official release date here in the USA from Focus Features.
