Trailer for At Eternity's Gate, starring Willem Dafoe, Rupert Friend, Oscar Isaac, Mads Mikkelsen and Mathieu Amalric.
Academy Award Nominee Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity's Gate is a journey inside the world and mind of a person who, despite skepticism, ridicule and illness, created some of the world’s most beloved and stunning works of art. This is not a forensic biography, but rather scenes based on Vincent van Gogh’s (Academy Award® Nominee Willem Dafoe) letters, common agreement about events in his life that present as facts, hearsay, and moments that are just plain invented.
Not sure if Vincent van Gogh aged badly, but Willem Dafoe is about 25 years older than the painter was at the time of his death.
Being a big fan of Willem Dafoe, it's always a pleasure to see him dominate in the lead position. The only thing I'm curious about is whether Dafoe tried any sort of accent before sticking with, well, his own form of speech. Perhaps I'm just splitting hairs, as Dafoe seems to give quite the performance. And, though this biopic should be interesting, think it will make for a better in-home viewing experience.
