Ryan Gosling Responds To The ‘Hey Girl’ Meme Craze That Swept The Net

No one can really contemplate how or why the 'Hey Girl' meme went viral. And it seems the figure at the center of the craze knows as little as we do. According to Variety, Ryan Gosling does not understand why images of The Nice Guys star are plastered all over the web with a tagline of 'Hey Girl' attached to complete said memes.

When the rationale behind the craze was put to him, Gosling simply explained, “I’ve never said that.” He has been used as a male symbol for sexy and it appears that, no matter what he does in his career, his face will be used for all kinds of content and he is powerless to stop it.

Gosling Finally Eats His Cereal

If that meme was one thing, a 2013 Vine video entitled “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal" was the icing on the cake. All thanks to Vine user Ryan McHenry creating endless loops of the actor on screen turning away from a spoonful of cereal. McHenry's work, of course, went viral and Gosling was once again stumped as to why such a random thing would become so popular.

“That was strange,” Gosling admits. “Just walking down the street, people would say, ‘Why won’t you eat your cereal? Are you too good for cereal?’”

The Drive star would later post a video of himself eating cereal as a mark of respect for McHenry, who passed away from cancer in 2015.

Actor Draws Parallels With Another Gorgeous Icon

Soon to feature in the hotly anticipated Blade Runner 2040, the actor compared his fame to a man that was big in the 80s and 90s. Only to have a certain event define him for the rest of his days.

“Do you remember when Fabio got hit in the face with a pigeon on the roller coaster and it broke his nose?" asked Gosling. "Sometimes I feel like I’m the pigeon and the internet is Fabio’s face.” He pauses. “Actually, I don’t know if I’m the pigeon or I’m Fabio’s face. Depends on the day, I guess.”

That has to be the first time Ryan Gosling has ever been compared to a pigeon!
