Olivia Munn: My Cameo in Ocean’s 8 COST Me Money!

Olivia Munn would make an incredible allegation this week, telling the press that her cameo in Ocean's Eight would put her in the red. The ensemble spinoff from Warner Brothers cast a whose who of Hollywood leading female names, from Cate Blanchett to Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and more.

With a string of cameos arriving via Matt Damon, Maria Sharapova and James Corden among others, clearly the budget would be stretched to have this much talent under one banner. But Munn would say that she was shortchanged and while she was contractually obliged to promote the movie, the pay off was not there.

Munn Left All at Sea Over Ocean's Fiasco

Speaking with the EW radio program, Munn would detail how the cameo call came about. All going according to plan, it would be the moment she tried to get a reimbursement from a grand yellow dress at the Met Gala that alarm bells started to ring.

"I was so excited when I got the call to be in Ocean's Eight," she recalled. "I thought, 'It's going to be so cool.' They're like do your own glam and I got the dress and all that and then you submit the bills for it because I'm part of your movie. And then they're (the producers) like, 'Oh no, the bills come right back to you.'"

This issue is remains outstanding, as Munn was obviously unhappy about the treatment and her subsequent commitment to plug the upcoming 2018 title.

"It was a call from the producers and the director. I was super excited. It actually cost me money to be in Ocean's Eight. And now a lot of my interviews have been about how I'm not (really) in Ocean's Eight. I had to pay a lot of money to basically spread the word that I'm not in Ocean's Eight."

Paulson Now Part of the Lady Legends

One individual who has not been jaded by the experience is Sarah Paulson. Talking with Digital Spy about the sequel/spinoff, she outlined how starstruck she was on set.

"I'm very, very excited about that one," she exclaimed. "It was extraordinary to look around the room and see Cate Blanchett, whom I've worked with twice now, with Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Awkwafina. It was a very empowering place to be – and it was really fun."

The bond between the leading ladies continues to this day.

"We have a text chain going that's one of the most epic things. If my phone was stolen, it would be eye-opening! I'm sure I'm just inviting everyone to hack my phone now."

Ocean's Eight opens in the US on June 8, 2018.
