Over the past decade or so, the release of movie trailers for big-budget films has become a cultural event on par with the release of the films they advertise. And thanks to the data available to us through a variety of video and social media platforms, we can see exactly how many times a movie trailer is being viewed, particularly in those all-important first 24 hours of their release.
So what is the most watched movie trailer of all time, you ask?

Avengers: Endgame (2019)
In the first 24 hours of its release, the trailer had 289 million views.
Regardless of what your guess might have been, it’s unlikely you’re too surprised that the trailer for Avengers: Endgame would top this list. The movie itself is among the biggest blockbusters of all time, and represented the final chapter of a massive franchise that spanned more than a decade. It also makes sense that the very first trailer for the movie, released in December of 2018, would get more views in the first day than subsequent trailers, since fans were more excited to get their first look at the movie than they were to get their second, third, or fourth looks.
In fact, the second and third most watched movie trailers are all from the Avengers franchise (a different trailer for Endgame, and the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, respectively). Number four is a teaser trailer for the live-action remake of Disney’s The Lion King, which you can take a look at below:
That makes number five on the list, a trailer for It, the only movie trailer in the top five that wasn't put out by Disney. The film had 197 million views in its first 24 hours. Take a look:
With most of the movie industry temporarily on pause, it remains to be seen whether a new blockbuster trailer might unseat Avengers: Endgame anytime soon. It’s possible that audience anticipation for upcoming movies like the The Matrix 4 (which hasn’t even completed filming yet) might ignite an unprecedented wave of excitement when it does finally come out. But for now, the most viewed trailer of them all remains Avengers: Endgame, and it will take a very successful trailer launch to break the record that it holds.
