Main Villain in Avengers: Infinity War Revealed

Still over a year away and, with two major films to come between the release, Kevin Feige has let slip who will be the main villain for Avengers: Infinity War. Mooted for a North American debut on May 4, 2018, the ensemble picture will crossover two arms of the Marvel franchise via The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, requiring a bad guy (or guys/girls) of epic proportions.

According to the producer, it will be a familiar face that will take on that role. Played by Josh Brolin, the villain Thanos starred in both the Guardians of the Galaxy and a cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Where audiences see him looking for the Infinity Gauntlet.

"Thanos in Infinity War is –" hesitated Feige before letting the secret known, "in a movie that has a lot of characters, you could almost go so far as to say he is the main character, and that’s a bit of a departure from what we’ve done before, but that was appropriate for a movie called Infinity War."

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has explained via a Facebook Live event that he will be working with the Russo Brothers. Not as a director this time, but as an executive producer for Avengers: Infinity War. Ensuring his characters fit into the mold of the crossover without losing any of their charm.

"Am I going to have any involvement with Infinity War, yes," responded the filmmaker to a fan question online. "I'm an executive producer on Infinity War. I've been working hard with the Russo Brothers, the Marvel guys, Kevin Feige to make sure that any of the characters that I'm involved with that are in that movie are well taken care of and are as funny as they should be, and is as honest and truthful as they should be, so I've been dealing with them all the time. I've been talking to the actors on set every single day as we go through production and it's been a great experience."

Will Thanos Cause Asgard's Destruction?

To manage 67 Marvel characters across two features that will work out to be the most expensive venture in Hollywood history, Avengers: Infinity War will need a storyline that is of the appropriate scale. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a casting email has been sent out to indicate that they are on the lookout for people who have the Asgardian look. Including beards and long hair.

As part of the requirements, this snippet hints towards mass bloodshed: “You’ll need to be comfortable with fake blood and with wearing special effects makeup.”

We will know far more following the November 3rd, 2017 release of Thor: Ragnarok. But it could be a terrifying sign of things to come for the God of Thunder's homeland.
