Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Casts Sylvester Stallone

Just before you thought Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 couldn't become any more of a kick ass movie, Sylvester Stallone has joined the fold in a major way. Filmmaker James Gunn dropped the news on The Adam Carolla Show. And, while the purpose of his visit on the program was to promote his thriller The Belko Experiment, it would be the Sly statement that had everyone talking.

"We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which people don't know about," he remarked. "Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters... My friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent role in the movie as well and it sort of works in tandem with Sly's character."

Stallone has been a mainstay of the action genre since the 1970s, going onto create and star in the Rocky, Rambo and The Expendables franchises, Cliffhanger, Cop Land, 1995's Judge Dredd, Lock Up and a litany of other titles. All of which has solidified him as one of the icons of the big screen, a great prospect as he prepares to link up with Chris Pratt, Kurt Russell and the rest of the cast.

Serious Sly Shows Extent of Rocky Madness

He is known and loved for his character Rocky Balboa, but the series of films took an incredible toll on the actor. Posting on Instagram shots of himself on the set of the franchise over the years, he revealed exactly what he went through to get into boxing shape. This included the following:

- He repeatedly became light-headed during filming

- He was on an extremely high protein diet which left him lacking physical and mental energy

- His daily diet consisted of small oatmeal cookies, brown rice, tuna and 25 cups of coffee with honey; and

- His body fat percentage dropped to a “dangerous” 2.9 per cent

- Pre-breakfast: A glass of liquid amino acids

- Breakfast: Three egg whites, half yoke, Irish oatmeal, toasted pumpernickel bread, fresh papaya, few figs

- Lunch: Roasted summer squash, broiled skinless chicken, salad, figs or berries

- Dinner: Salad, broiled fish, high-fibre toasted bread; occasionally eats veal.

Fat Pratt Struggling To Keep It Together

Maybe the addition of Sly onboard Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will prove to be a great motivator for Pratt, after the lead star continues to post hilarious new videos on Instagram with #WHATSMYSNACK. Uploading the video right before 11pm, the actor could not help himself when a cake was sitting in his kitchen was left unattended.

"I should go to bed, but instead I'm maybe going to eat my snack for tomorrow," he said into the camera. "I'm supposed to eat that tomorrow, not today."

Seconds later - gone without a trace.
