Gal Gadot: Wonder Woman Got Diana Right Where BvS Got Her Wrong

The string of errors and missteps for 2015's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have been well chronicled. It was one of the worst ways to kick off a franchise and the DCEU has been forced to heed the warnings of that movie ever since.

While Gal Gadot was diplomatic during her discussion with The Playlist this week, the actress admitted that her superhero Wonder Woman was not portrayed in the best of lights, putting director Patty Jenkins in an unenviable position for this year's standout installment. Diana's inclusion was sparing and late, but even in those moments it was clear that Zack Snyder was attempting to shoehorn a figure who needed to be established first.

Fully aware of the problematic depiction of Wonder Woman in the bloated motion picture two years prior, Gadot explained that the creators and writers were learning as they were going. This viewpoint illustrates that Warner Brothers were more inclined to build towards a standalone feature than worry about the repercussions of a troubled title.

"None of us knew exactly, exactly, the back story of Wonder Woman," she remarked. "And once they decided to shoot the solo movie for Wonder Woman and we started to dig in to understand the core of this character, we realized that, actually, there is no way that Wonder Woman would ever give up on mankind."

What Jenkins then managed to do was strike a dramatic balance whereby tough choices were considered and thought through. That emphasis was a positive step for Gadot.

"The reason why she left the island was because she wanted to make their lives better and safer—they are her calling. So, I’m giving you a very honest answer, but it was—sometimes in a creative process, you establish something that is not necessarily the right decision, but then you can always correct it and change it. So Wonder Woman will always be there, as far as she’s concerned, for mankind."

Snyder Signals New Dawn As Filmmaker Posts Fresh DC Set Pics

With a pep in his step to return to the domain he loves, Snyder took to his official Vevo account this week to showcase himself with a number of standout Justice League stars. First there would be the snap in front of the coveted bat signal, a green screen shot with Aquaman's Jason Momoa and a menacing look from the actor huddled in water.

The mega success of Wonder Woman from a critical and commercial standpoint will give Snyder and co. a lift heading into the November 17 premiere, yet the future of the DCEU remains in something of a flux. Some rumors are circulating that a Flashpoint film will await the reaction to Justice League, not wanting to venture too far into the future without the guarantee of success.
