Dwayne Johnson: Tom Cruise Beat Me To Jack Reacher Role

The casting of Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher in 2012 raised more than a few eyebrows. The movie that was based on Lee Child's 2005 novel One Shot intended to have a man of approximately 6ft 5 in stature in the lead role. Therefore flying in the face of the Scientologist's modest frame of 5ft 7.

As Dwayne Johnson was quizzed by a fan on Twitter about rumors linking him to the role, he admitted that his peer beat him out on that count.

“Yup, luv the character," he replied. "Bout 10yrs ago I went after the role, but (Tom) Cruise got it. Was great motivation for me to always stay hungry.”

Rock: Vin and I Have Different Philosophies On Moviemaking

Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel Actor Beef

As the cast of The Fate of Furious hit the media circuit, details have emerged about a split between two of the draw cards in Vin Diesel and The Rock. The former was first to go public earlier in the week.

"I don't think the world really knows how close we are, in a weird way," he said. "I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don't think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he's Uncle Dwayne."

Wanting to put forward his rationale behind the butting of heads, he explained that as an actor and producer, the buck had to stop with him.

"I protect the franchise. I protect everybody including Dwayne. I protected Dwayne more than he'll ever know. And it doesn't matter. He doesn't have to know. But he appreciates it. He knows it. Dwayne has only got one Vin in his life. Dwayne Johnson only has one big brother in this film world and that's me."

It was then Johnson's turn to give his state of events. Simply saying that two personalities such as themselves are not always going to get along.

"Just like in life, you have different philosophies and people have different fundamental philosophies on how you do things. And again, the most important thing is just the movie."

Dwayne Gets Silly With Jimmy In La La Land

Having some fun with his late night talk show host friend, Johnson appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote The Fate of the Furious. But rather than stick to the usual table and couch routine, the pair decided to have a bit of fun with their celebrity status as they ventured out to Universal Studios in Los Angeles kitted out inside their own mascot uniforms.

Photobombing some unsuspecting theme park attendees, the entertainers twerked, dabbed and laughed their way through the afternoon in LA. It would be right towards the end when one diehard fan could not hold the emotion in when The Rock revealed himself, showcasing his tattoo of the man on his leg.
