What The Critics Are Saying About “Off The Chain” Fate of the Furious

Fast8, Furious8, The Fate of the Furious - however you want to describe the 2017 edition to the franchise, the early reviews appear promising. Courtesy of an early screening on Wednesday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the title has been showcased to a number of critics ahead of the April 14 premiere.

If you thought director F. Gary Gray was aiming for a more mature, grounded movie, then you are way off the mark. Throughout the reactions online from those who attended there is an overwhelming consensus. The action goes to a new level. Plain and simple. Quite the scenario given the track record of the seven previous movies.

With a cast complete with Grade A talent and a budget that gives the filmmaker all the bells and whistles he so desires, nothing is held back in this extravaganza. Leaving the critics to rave about the spectacle.

Eric Vespe: "I adored every ridiculous, silly, charming, absurd, fun second of The Fate of the Furious."

Germain Lussier: "The Fate of the Furious is another winning entry in the franchise. Crazy, fun, and yet very different feeling. I laughed, I cried, I cheered."

Jeff Sneider: "THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS features some great action set pieces but I think I may be too old for this franchise, which just isn't the same now"

Peter Sciretta: "Vin Diesel surprised the #CinemaCon2017 crowd with an impromptu screening of @FastFurious Fate Of The FuriousThe Fate of the Furious takes the ridiculousness of the franchise to a whole new level, yet feels very different. Should be a gigantic hit."

Erik Davis: "THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS is no joke. Doubles down on action, emotion, intensity, humor &, of course, family. The NYC stuff is off the chain. Loved @TheRock and Jason Statham in FATE OF THE FURIOUS. Their characters really popped; great dialogue & fight scenes #F8."

Funny, Cool and With a Twist!

With a submarine chasing a string of vehicles in the snow acting as just one scene, clearly this is 136-minutes that cannot be taken too seriously. The critics agree with this, clearly. But they also make the point that it is worthy seeing on the big screen nonetheless.

Steven Weintraub: "Fate of the Furious is everything you want it to be and a ton of fun. @TheRock is a straight up superhero in the film and I loved it." But there was one obvious miss that had him curious. "Not sure I saw even one shot in Fate of the Furious with @TheRock & Vin Diesel together. Take that how you will."

Sean P. Means: "So we got a #CinemaCon2017 surprise, with a screening of 'The Fate of the Furious' in full. Pretty cool, still ridiculous action."

Amy Kaufman: "Charlize's dreads in #fast8 were problematic for me. The best part of #Fast8 is mosdef Jason Statham interacting with a wee babe."

Caleb Williams: "REACTION: If you think you know whats going on in #Fast8.....you don't... Jason Stathams funniest movie yet. Great twists! #CinemaCon2017."
