Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is regularly quizzed about the in's and out's of beloved comic book characters in his movies. As Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 spanned the universe for heroes, anti-heroes and villains alike, a new member was teased in one of the five post-credit scenes for the May 2017 blockbuster.
But while the next installment courtesy of Avengers: Infinity War will pack in a plethora of colorful individuals, Adam Warlock will have to wait his turn for an official introduction to the MCU. Feige had this to say to /FILM this week:
"Adam is not in Infinity War," stated the producer. "That is not a tag for Infinity War. But it varies. It varies. In that case in particular, James has ideas. And had played with incarnations of Adam Warlock in earlier drafts of other Guardians films. So he's always been top of mind for the Guardians franchise. And if he appears anywhere in the future, it'll be with Guardians."
Gunn Fires Creative Shots At Cameo King Stan Lee
Popping up in almost every Marvel title to date, creator Stan Lee has made it his personal trademark to venture on camera wherever possible. When it came to his short stint in the post-credits for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it required some deliberation between himself and the director James Gunn.
"James is always throwing things to Stan and always getting Stan to try more things," Feige remarked. "And in one of those times, he said, he told the Watchers not to walk away and Stan just called after them as they're walking away. And it was so funny that we put that at the very, very end of the movie. The Ayesha tag with Adam Warlock came up also towards the end of production, the beginning of post-production. To give her a little bit of an exit into the movie and more of a sort of solidifying her whole purpose in the movie. And like at the premiere they go 'we'll call him Adam.' People go 'Oh, I wonder who Adam is?' When there are fans seeing the movie, they'll know who Adam is."
Howard Stern Waxer Gets Brush With Guardians Fame
— Richard Christy (@cwotd) May 5, 2017
Richard Christy might only be known to those that tune into The Howard Stern Show, but James Gunn has been an admirer of his for quite some time. Needing to fill the cast with some extra names, the filmmaker recalled a moment that stuck in the memory.
"10 years ago I heard (Christy) get his privates waxed on & had to pull over from laughing," the director posted. "I knew then I needed to put him in a film."
Taking a picture with his new boss on set, Christy could not hide his delight.
"Halloween came early on the set of #GotGVol2 & it was a freakin blast! Thank U @JamesGunn #DownThere @Guardians is out now & it RULES!!"
