Trailer for the documentary Arranged Happiness.
When her mother died, Waheeda Dar set aside her dreams of an acting career to care for her siblings. Now 27 years old, it is high time for her to be married and have a family of her own. The responsibility of finding a suitable husband and organizing the wedding falls on the shoulders of the only son, Ashiq, who will spend his life savings and travel miles to guarantee that his sister’s trust in him will ensure her future happiness. The film’s portrayal of a loving Muslim Kashmiri family’s search for the best possible match provides an intimate and compelling counterweight to widely held perceptions of Islam in the West.Just as interesting is the relationship between Ashiq and German filmmaker Daniela. Although they are in a committed relationship, tradition and protocol make them wary of revealing the fact to his family, reflecting the differences between traditions of the past and the modern life young Muslims now seek.
