When you have a story that is obviously er, outside the box, it is good to have a proven team. In comes writer/director Alex Garland, the same guy who gave us Ex Machina. And, as it turns out, he brought some of that film's cast with him. Besides Oscar Isaac, who we only see in what looks to be a coma-like state, Garland also re-cast Sonoya Mizuno. The beautiful (Japanese) robot from Ex Machina. Does the director have a crush on this actress? If he did, it would be hard to blame him.

The film is based on the first book in the "Southern Reach" trilogy.

If there is one thing we can all agree on, there is a lot going on in the first Annihilation trailer. With a limited synopsis and preview that seems more focuses on the visuals, it is nearly impossible to figure out what's going on. Obviously some sort of dimension has opened up, or something. But it created some sort of magical forest that is just as dangerous as it is beautiful.

Or, maybe not.

To top it off, we have the protagonist's husband, Oscar Isaac, which has us wondering what the heck may have happened to him.

Then trees start glowing. What?!?

Okay, we are definitely interested.
