Trailer for Aftermath.

Two strangers’ lives become inextricably bound together after a devastating plane crash. Inspired by actual events, AFTERMATH tells a story of guilt and revenge after an air traffic controller’s (Scoot McNairy) error causes the death of a construction foreman’s (Arnold Schwarzenegger) wife and daughter.

Flight Delayed

Confrontation

You could definitely say that Arnold Schwarzenegger has had plenty of experience in a role like this one. This will be the 7th film in which he plays a character who loses his family. In Conan the Barbarian , Conan's parents are slain by Thulsa Doom. In Last Action Hero , Jack Slater's son Andy whom falls to death along with The Ripper. In End of Days  Jericho's wife and daughter are murdered by thugs when they break into his apartment. In Collateral Damage , Gordy Brewer's wife and son are killed in a bombing by Claudio Perrini. In Sabotage Wharton's family are kidnapped, tortured and murdered by drug lord Brujo. Finally, in Maggie, the film ends with Wade Vogel's Maggie dying when she commits suicide and jumps to her death.

"Aftermath" is quite the popular title for a feature film, this will be the fifth film in our database:

Aftermath (2009)
Aftermath (2013)
Aftermath (2014)
Aftermath (2014)

A very well executed trailer. It sets up the film nicely and the tone is nailed. The audience is gently introduced to this happy moment in Roman's (Arnold Schwarzenegger) life with his wife and daughter returning home. The gentle music and how happy he seems is perfectly setting up the audience for the tragedy which is about to occur. It helps the audience buy into how Roman is grieving and anger he must feel.

This movie looks just OK. I have similar feelings that I had when I saw the Sabotage trailer. I thought Arnold was going to perfect bad ass dad searching to revenge his family, and while the movie was ok, it fell a little flat for me. And now we have a similar tale with Aftermath, except this one has the loos not because of a kidnapping but negligence. So, how accountable is this one man, Paul Bonanos (Scoot McNairy), for the death of his family? While it was not intentional, it was definitely his fault. Watch out, Arnold is coming after you!
