First teaser trailer for A Wrinkle in Time, which was shown by Walt Disney Pictures during D23 Expo at Anaheim, California. Film stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and more.
The film is an epic adventure based on Madeleine L'Engle's timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and ultimately, the triumph of love.
The classic novel from author Madeleine L'Engle has actually been adapted to film once before. Nothing up to the scale of this production, the film was released as a TV movie with Katie Stuart occupying the role now played by Storm Reid.
Disney decided to acquire the film rights to A Wrinkle in Time after finding success with Tim Burton's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. The sequel, however, did not fare nearly as well.
If you pay close attention, you will get a glimpse of actress Mindy Kaling. She has done a number of features for Disney, but this will be her first live-action.
While the adventure is clearly there, the film definitely looks aimed more at the early or pre-teen moviegoer. Even with all the adventure and clashes with evil, it looks like this adaptation could end up with a PG rating. That being said, I'm not sure Disney had me in mind when adapting the novel. But, it does look like a lot of fun and extra kudos for the cover of Eurthmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)"
