Trailer for A United Kingdom.

Starring David Oyelowo (Selma) and Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl); and directed by Amma Asante (Belle), A United Kingdom tells the inspiring true story of Seretse Khama, the king of Bechuanaland (modern Botswana), and Ruth Williams, the London office worker that he married in 1948 in the face of fierce opposition from their families and the British and South African governments. Seretse and Ruth defied family, apartheid and empire - their love triumphed over every obstacle flung in their path and in so doing they transformed their nation and inspired the world.

Meeting With Tshekedi

Reunites David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike from Jack Reacher (2012).

The film is based on the true-life romance between Seretse Khama and his wife Ruth Williams Khama. Seretse was the first president of Botswana. Born into one of the more powerful of the royal families of what was then the British Protectorate of Bechuanaland, and educated abroad in neighbouring South Africa and in the United Kingdom, he returned home—with a popular but controversial bride—to lead his country's independence movement. He founded the Botswana Democratic Party in 1962 and became Prime Minister in 1965. In 1966, Botswana gained independence and Khama became its first president.

This is a great trailer. It delivers the story line in a powerful manner with a great editing and a score that fits perfectly.

Like most people, I was unaware of this true story which has a lot of great elements for a compelling movie. I am very glad to see that they chose Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo in the lead roles. They are great actors and look to nail their roles in this film.
