Trailer for A Thousand Girls Like Me.

In 2014, Khatera, a 23-year-old Afghan woman from a very traditional family, decides to break the law of silence. After seeking help in vain from several mullahs, she goes public on television to denounce the incest her father inflicted on her since she was nine. Against her family's will, and in spite of a society that places the blame on rape victims, she forces him to stand trial. All the while, Khatera lovingly cares for the daughter and newborn baby her father sired—whom she refers to, with tender perplexity, as both her siblings and children. Forced to be constantly on the move for fear of her relatives' vengeance, she refuses to give in, determined to make her voice heard and have her perpetrator punished. Afghan director Sahra Mani closely follows Khatera's brave and dangerous battle, shedding light on a corrupt justice system that's not ready to protect women.
