Bartek and Pawel’s aspirations reach beyond their impoverished and violent neighbourhood in Warsaw. Bartek dreams big, training to become a film stuntman with his buddy Pawel as his coach. The men work out, run and wrestle together day in and day out. They’re sparring partners, confidants and best friends hell-bent on finding a way out of their crushing environment. Pawel takes on the role of father figure and pushes his friend to the limits, speaks for him, defends him and steers him…or so he’d like to think. Pawel does most of the talking, and more often than not it’s about Bartek—his awful childhood, where he’s headed in life, his hopes and fears for him—but really, Pawel’s talking about himself. Featuring a stirring soundtrack by David Lynch’s frequent collaborator Angelo Badalamenti, A Dream in the Making is a sensitive story of co-dependence, friendship and determination.
