I have seen three different road shows of Les Miserables, and now the trailer with Anne Hathaway as Fantine. I never thought of Fantine as being a character who would be particularly self-pitying. Not because she didn't deserve to be, but because I think that her dream of a happy life was extinguished early, and she became depleted and numb due to her hardships. I'm not sure how I will react to Anne's weepy version of the character. I'm very excited to see this film though. It has the most beautiful music and lyrics of any Broadway show.
