The trailer to this movie grabbed my attention even with an annoying "pop" up that caught my eye last week. From the clip I knew this movie was going to be emotionally impressive.
In my own opinion, "Passion" is a movie's most powerful element. This movie hit the target. Whether it is Rocky's last round or a college kid living his dream on a cross country adventure seen in "Into the Wild. Anyone who is not impressed by this movie because they claim it is slow, may just be partial to the big action flicks.
This not not "Die Hard or Rambo" and requires an audience that has or had deep love or loss in their life to appreciate. So don't worry, if you want to be moved by a film and you have emotional compassion, this is the movie for you.
Will Smith's ability to capture this incredible role blew me away. He was interesting, charismatic and most of all MYSTERIOUS. Despite the movies lengthy play time, I still found myself not wanting it not to end.
This was my first time seeing Rosario Dawson on the big screen, as opposed to an episode of "PUNKED." Her skill of delivering deep emotional lines without ever crossing boundaries was remarkable. This is a woman who was feeling love, loss and pain through her performance, unlike acting I've seen recently.
Despite some skeptics who may claim this movie was predictable, I can only imagine it comes from a guy named "Bubba" who grabs cat fish from the bottom of a swamp, skins it and deep fries it for dinner...yet would choke on the food served at a five star restaurant without his 40oz to wash it down.
Each scene of this movie was shot as a "moment" and was brilliantly woven to keep emotional interest high. The camera work was spot on with steaming close ups and "panicky" twists and side to side movement. As you took a breath you couldn't help but hold it, anticipating what emotional reaction lied waiting for you in the coming seconds.
The true talent and chemistry of Will Smith and Rosario Dawson will
dig deep into you, enough to make you feel loss, love and compassion.
That is what this movie is about and it was done beautifully.
Not a dry eye in the house.
