I've been waiting for about a year to see this trailer, and now... I've got mixed feelings. For one thing, the page to screen translations are almost flawless, and I appreciate how much the movie is keeping true to Dave Gibbons's illustrations. I worry, though, that it seems to be billed as an action movie. If the filmmakers make that the focus (which the rediculously huge amount of slow motion effects seem to suggest they will), they have missed much of Alan Moore's message. (Don't get me wrong, I want to see the action done well. But slow motion battles in Watchmen makes about as much sense to me as bullet time in Casablanca for the one guy who gets shot).
I can't fault the cinematography, and I'm loving the little touches I can already see (Rorschach's mask slowly changing patterns, for example), but hope that this movie draws on the terror, mystery, and miracle of human coexistance as did the comic, instead of the coolness of people putting their fists in each other's faces in super slow- then fast motion. There's room for both, but which should be the focus seems clear
