Smart Release DateThe ending where it shows the release date of Watchmen, 3.6.9 which means March 6, 2009. Those three numbers are on the corners of the clock, in this case, the Doomsday Clock, that lead up to the end of the hour, but we're not just there yet, pretty smart.

Watchmen TrailerMy issues with the film/trailer so far are that:
1) Alan Moore had all references of his association with the project removed.
2) It's another attempt to remove the spirit of the graphic novel and substitute Hollywood's image of a superhero in black leather body armor. Nite Owl is not a 20 something athelete, he's an overweight 40ish man. Veidt is not 20, he's in his forties. The only charecters that look like they should are Rorshach and the Comedian (who looks awesome. I don't include Dr. M as he's all CGI anyway.

1 million mark"A first for TrailerAddict since our launch back in December of 2007, the teaser trailer for Watchmen is the first trailer we've hosted that has passed the one-million mark when it comes to embedded views around the internet.
Since we couldn't imagine a better trailer achieving such a feat, this is the ultimate "Well Done!" to Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder.
*Anybody know where we can send a bandwidth bill to Warner Bros? Just a thought..."
That's only because I've cutback tremendously to watching it only 10 times a day now.

Holy BallsOh my god, yes.
If you look closely at some of the scenes, they look like they're ripped out of the book, frame by frame. There's so much detail in this movie, like the Veidt can Rorschach uses for the flamethrower, good god. The books look like they were made to be storyboards for a film adaptation, and you get the impression that Snyder did just that.
As far as what non-geeks thought about it...they saw "from the director of 300" and were sold.

Being patient.Unless you've been living under a rock... You'd pretty much know that graphic novels have definitly been a stronger point to cinemas today. They are judged by how well they can captivate an audience, but now that the superhero is coming back, and better than ever... They are judged by how well they can stick to the original. Zach Snyder is the best director for this movie, and will not dissapoint.
So Matt... When you read in the trailer... "The most celebrated graphic novel of all time..." Or... "From the visionary director of 300..." What comes to your mind?
Words will hold suspence... Not pictures.

Fix the TrailerI really like the current trend of adapting the comic book medium to the silver screen. However this trailer is not going to promote this film IMHO.
The audience has no idea or reference as to what is happening and so it just looks like a bunch of special effects with no plot line. For all I could tell it's another Uwe Boll adaptation of a video game.
Add some more context with a little idea of the plot and it would improve some. It is not Cloverfield quality advertising. There is no mystery, nothing to be revealed here. Just a bunch of special effects for the uninitiated.

Some people are funnySome people are funny in that they (sadly) take perverse satisfaction/joy in looking to find fault with or diminish things that should be embraced with enthusiasm.
Anyone who has had the honor&pleasure of reading (and truly appreciating) Moore & Gibbons superlative, epic, groundbreaking maxi-series/graphic novel should rightfully be elated by the WATCHMEN teaser trailer. Could any of us have hoped in our wildest imaginings that there was even a chance of this "hallowed" work being cinematically rendered as faithfully as it now appears to be the case? I am astonished by and grateful for Mr. Snyder's obvious reverence for the source material.
Would that motion picture executives were wise enough to ensure that all adaptations of beloved works were placed in the loving, caring, capable hands of filmmakers who were dedicated to TRANSLATING a work from one medium to another rather than embellishing or altering it.
To sum up: all of you miserable bastards who (would) gleefully look to s(p)oil this triumphant first glimpse of what - against all odds - appears to be a worthy adaptation of one of the most celebrated works in the annals of illustrated fiction / graphic literature really need to submit to a little self-examinaton in order to gain some insight into just what it is that accounts for your tragically toxic 'tude.
You can call me by the derisively-intended label of "fanboy" if you will/must, though it's an ill-fitting stereotype of a term that has by this point been so overused as to do no more than to mock the person who attempts to use it as a supposed insult.

timing of lyrics and imagesLove the timing of the song with the American flag being draped over the coffin (check the lyrics). Masterful directing even in the trailer.

I liked itAs someone who has never read the graphic novel, I have to say this trailer has me interested. Having seen only pictures of the characters, I was a bit hesitant, thinking the costumes looked very cheesy and I had an overwhelming sense that this was going to end up being another Roger Corman Fantastic Four. This has me looking at this film in a whole new light.

Watchmen Teaser TrailerI wish people would stop talking cr@p about a TEASER TRAILER for a movie that\'s due in around 8 months!!! I was awestruck by what I saw. I\'m not going to sit here a trash talk about what I DIDN\'T see... Idiots! You prob. haven\'t even read any of the issues!!! If you where also following the production you\'d know that Zach Snyder even created the \'sailer\' comic which will be in the DVD release. Alan Moore repeatedly stated that he wants no part in the film and gave his share of the money made to Dave Gibbons. So for those of you going \"Aw shame he\'s not getting any money...\" that was his decision, not the studio\'s!
I\'m tired of typing... Peace out! Hope the true fans enjoy watching the movie in March!

Comic book Movieswe all know that the dates put some people at edge, but can you please stop talking about the negatives. this is my first time hearing about the watchmen (YES I SAID IT) but im interested in these superheros im looking into them more and more and this story is completely stunning to me. And remember the most money making movies right now are comic book movies, if your smart you would notice that most of them are made by marvel and only 3 by DC 4 if your counting the watchmen so i feeling like this movie will the true dark side of being the hero and dosen't give out that "HAPPY-ENDING CRAP"

trailerI'd just like to say that I've never read or heard of this graphic novel, and this trailer definitely has my attention. And that's the goal of trailers, right? Just think of the old Alien trailer. NOTHING about the plot, but s**t was it scary. I like trailers to have some mystique.
I like what they did with the song too...much better than the original Smashing Pumpkins version. Some strings and bass are added, and they slowed it down a bit.

plotlineI am really excited to see if watchmen will live up to the graphic novel, which is my all time favorite. The characters and the frames look just like the book, which has me so excited. I'll be curious to see if they put the story within the story in the movie interpretation...when the kid at the news stand reads the comic about the pirate and his adventures that mirror the main plot emotions...I hope they include it- I think it’s smart!

gratifyingAs I sat Waiting to watch The DarkKnight, I thought to myself How could this get any better, than the image of the WB shield appeared with a gritty silver and gold color scheme. Then I know I was up for a treat. As I watched in a mesmerized stupper, looking at the screen with a vage sence of deja vu. The vivid look and feel of the picture looked almost better then perfect . then overalll the music ontop of the visuals, It was nothing less then gratifying. this book has been in and out of production for the better part of 20 years, and now seeing the out come of the footage, Now was the best time to make this masterpiece into a live action film.

visuals/teaserThe visuals in the trailer look great, awesome, grawesome. Someone before had said that the trailer is a mess because of no attempt at a narrative, but I think the trailer works great as a teaser to get people interested and asking questions. Kind of like Cloverfield, they don't explain anything but instead show you something that looks awesome and mysterious.
Dr. Manhattan looks so cool and that insane contraption at the end will definitely have people wonder what Watchmen is about. I think the trailer does a good job in that respect as being a teaser.

Trailer MusicThink about how recycled the music is from the Lord of the Rings trailer. Fellowship trailer music has been played in tons of other trailers. So was the clint mansell theme created for the Two Towers trailer.
Another great one is the Dragonheart theme. Used a lot.

March ReleaseSeveral things;
1) Studios, based on 300, now think March is a great time for hit films.
2) Watchmen isn't meant to be a tentpole film.
3) Trailer music is seldom good and often reused. How many trailers have reused Pee Wee Big Adventure theme? I can think of 7.

ComicBook AdaptationsI agree, just about every tentpole is now a comicbook or video game. Hollywood's library has to be running short. When it comes to the response on the trailer, it's all about the visuals. For those that have read Watchmen (I've read it and figured it would be damn near impossible to adapt) it is enough to bring on a boner, for those who have no idea what this is, it is enough to draw some heavy attention.
I don't mind the lack of dialogue, as this is supposedly a 'teaser trailer'. The single line says a lot.
March releases are a bad sign? Let's not forget Zack Snyder's 300.

bad omenthe song on the trailer originally came from the "Batman & Robin" OST. What a bad way to start: using a song from a comic book movie nobody likes.

uh-huhdoes anybody care that every damn film nowadays is based on a comic book? Why not issue No. 214 of Daredevil be turned into 2010's big film? Or wait, The Green Lantern doesn't have a film, or, wait, is that in pre-production? Or Thor? Wait...did I see that trailer already? And Wonder Woman...what about The Question? There's no film on him yet. Let's get for real...you enjoy it as a comic book, can't it stay that way? Everything comic book and ALL about the visuals. What ever happened to just doing drugs and reading comic books?

U retardsilver surfer? wolverine? READ A BOOK!! Better yet read THIS book!!!! & get a clue! my only wish is that Alan Moore sould have gotten a peice of the millions that will come out of this flick
by I_am_I | July 18, 2008, 3:47PM
cautiously...cautiousI've been waiting for about a year to see this trailer, and now... I've got mixed feelings. For one thing, the page to screen translations are almost flawless, and I appreciate how much the movie is keeping true to Dave Gibbons's illustrations. I worry, though, that it seems to be billed as an action movie. If the filmmakers make that the focus (which the rediculously huge amount of slow motion effects seem to suggest they will), they have missed much of Alan Moore's message. (Don't get me wrong, I want to see the action done well. But slow motion battles in Watchmen makes about as much sense to me as bullet time in Casablanca for the one guy who gets shot).
I can't fault the cinematography, and I'm loving the little touches I can already see (Rorschach's mask slowly changing patterns, for example), but hope that this movie draws on the terror, mystery, and miracle of human coexistance as did the comic, instead of the coolness of people putting their fists in each other's faces in super slow- then fast motion. There's room for both, but which should be the focus seems clear

Re: "Give me a break"You gotta be kidding here. First, the only people who are likely to have a clue about Watchmen ARE the fanboys. Giving the story away with a cheesy voiceover NINE MONTHS before it comes out would achieve nothing. I think Zack Snyder played his cards perfectly here. Those of us familiar with Watchmen know what's going on, and we don't need to be spoonfed the story. This trailer is exactly what is needed to get the rest of the world wondering and talking about it.
by Praya | July 18, 2008, 12:50PM
There is a reason there's no dialogueObviously they don't have dialouge for a reason. A lot of people are going to dismiss this story as just another camp fest comic book movie. The point of this teaser is to get people's imagination flowing bout what exactly could this movie be? Then they visit the website and they can find out more about it. When a person reads it they might be bound to be more intrested in it, then if they are trying to pick out a plot from a narraration.
But just keep in mind that Rorshach did set up a bit of a narration by saying when they look to the sky and ask for help, ill whisper No. it kind of gives the veiwer an idea, that something is happening.

watchmen is amazingwhen i saw this last night before batman i almost shit myself, i can recall almost every scene from the comic, zach is the best, ive watched this trailer like 15 times today. i needed to say this because i am really excited and i have to wait 8 months now
by Jalen | July 18, 2008, 9:05AM
SsweeetI was worried when I saw the March release date as well, but I think with the success of 300 and Sin City in March and Feb of their release years, I think the big blockbuster movie releases have moved up in the calender. Before those two, early year movies were kind of a bad sign.
by Midos | July 18, 2008, 8:04AM
Give me a breakTo those of you who say that this is just a teaser trailer, which absolves it of a responsibility to a narrative, contrast it with the Batman Begins or Dark Knight teasers, both released earlier than 8 months before their respective movies. Both are visually restrained (particularly TDK) and manage to set up a strong narrative with around a minute's footage.
On the other hand, this Watchmen trailer takes twice as much time to make something that would be boring to anyone concerned with watching a good movie and not just a lazy, gimmicky waste of time that seems more bothered with showing us how wonderfully "faithful" it is than providing anything entertaining or interesting. Teasers are not "just for fanboys", and whoever thinks that the movie's "faithfulness" to the original will be determined by costumes rather than narrative quality.

comment"Does anyone else have shitty expectations for this? A march release is never a good sign. Shouldn't this be a tentpole? Also, whenever a trailer doesn't have any dialogue it makes me nervous....."It's a teaser trailer, get knowledge. Teaser trailers don't show any plot points, they give the viewer a 'teaser'
As for that Silver sufer thing - go read the Novel. This is shaping up to be exactly like it, which is no bad thing.

E.D.B got a pointI must agree with E.D.B. The visual is absolutely stunning... for someone who has read the comic and can make some links in his head. Therefore I must say I enjoyed my masturbation session.

Hmm.I'm with Midos on this. The visuals are nice but there's no attempt to even suggest a story to people who haven't read the comic. Still, I hope it's just a teaser and that the film follows the plot more assiduously.
It bothers me that they made Nightowl look more like Batman (tough and perfectly muscled) and less like the sad middle-aged man he is.

No.. it's a March release, because outside of the comic community, the average movie goer has no clue about Watchmen. And giving it a March release almost assures no real major competition.
As for dialogue.. it's the first trailer, for a movie that's still 8 months away. There's time.

date?Does anyone else have shitty expectations for this? A march release is never a good sign. Shouldn't this be a tentpole? Also, whenever a trailer doesn't have any dialogue it makes me nervous.....

Retard"So is this the new Silver Surfer movie?! Cause it sure doesnt look "visionary" it looks like the Silver Surfer in a movie with Wolverine and a girl in a leather pant suit."
You're retarded, right? A mentally challenged boy managed to find his way onto the internet, I do hope. Otherwise, there's no excuse.

songActually, the song is "The Begining is the End is the Begining". It's a version of the original (End-Begining-End) and both are in the soundtrack album for the Batman & Robin (1997) film. Looks like the Watchmen trailer being released w/ Dark Night premiere is not the only thing it has in common w/ the dark dude. =D

FUCK YEAHS!Hellllll YEas
I am so happy right now. To Midos, no shit. This trailer is for the fanboys, get the fuck over it. I don't think its important at this point for a release of 2009 to start divulging story and plot points you retard.
This all about reassuring the fans that this movie will look good, and will deliver the faithful adaptation that us FANs want.
GO ZACH. this is going to be awesome

who watches the watchmen? really..Thank you Zach Snyder for perfectly and safely turning this film into what we all imagined it would look like in motion and with a ton of CG. Thousands of people will continue to miss what made the graphic novel so important. This is Sparta.

What is a trailer anyway ...@ Midos: wouldn't the narrative come in the film itself?
by casbboy | July 17, 2008, 4:01PM
Smashing PumpkinsWho chose this song?! Give that person a raise!
by Midos | July 17, 2008, 3:40PM
ArgI'm a huge fan of the book, but this trailer is a mess. There's no attempt at a narrative or anything like it, it's just a two-minute long fanboy masturbation session.

WhoaHoly F@cking Sh1t. I read this in highschool as it was beng released in issues, still remember my buddys telling me "don't read ahead-!!!" It as so ...unlike anything else at the time. Anyway the visuals of this trailer sent a shiver down my spine, god i hope they got it right. Infinite props to Alan Moore for dreaming this all up. See you on the other side.

songAnyone know the song? I know it's "The End is the Beginning is the End" by Smashing Pumpkins, but it's alot slower than the regular version.. wondering if it's a new version for the movie, or if it's on some other SP album?
