Disney*Pixar Up
In response to the following comments, Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar present another feature film. In their previous feature films, the sales from the box office and worldwide acclaim only have to speak for themselves. Up is a fictional film. Meaning that the story is made up, which then allows the storyline to go where ever it pleases. Up is about a 78 year old man, Carl Fredricksen who spends his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life. “Up” takes audiences on a thrilling journey where the unlikely pair encounter wild terrain, unexpected villains and jungle creatures.

Pixar's objective is to combine proprietary technology and world-class creative talent to develop computer-animated feature films with memorable characters and heartwarming stories that appeal to audiences of all ages.

up
In response to what cristiab said about if they are in the house the whole time or if they land, there's a link to concept art of the movie of them in a jungle

The sky's the limit.
To Wiz and CC:

both of u have good points, but honestly, im going with cc. Pixar movies usually have multi-generational appeal. I loved Nemo, and enjoy Wall-E(though I probably think too much about it's messages). As for marketing appeal, We haven't seen enough of the movie to really say that it can't produce a toy line. Off the top of my head: a playset and a board game(not to mention a video game). The real question of marketing is "what scenes in the movie make good toys?" in other words, Where do they go? what happens? Do they land? The movie can't possibly spend the whole runtime in a single house, can it? Do they meet natives in a tribe, or fly to the North Pole? Until another trailer is released, the whole marketing situation seems up in the air, and the possibilities could be endless.

UP's upper than never!
To Wiz:

What are you saying? That a story that has an old guy and a boy scout won't have the success of others like Wall-E or Ratatouille? How do you know that? Hope you're totally wrong! Maybe they're trying to make a movie that's not only for children. Have you thought that?

Pixar rocks!

Why UP falls DOWN
Actually the reason I said it was a bomb I should expand on...

It is NOT due to the problems of physics, but one of interest. It may get SOME viewers simply because it is Pixar, but at its heart, Pixar movies succeed most when they hit the children market. And I seriously doubt that an OLD GRUMPY GUY in a house powered by balloons is enough of an "aw cool" factor to draw in kids.

Let's look at Pixar's other hits.
1) Toy Story - Stars toys. Duh. Of course kids like toys.
2) Bugs Life - Not a major hit and often overlooked. But enough kids think bugs are cool to support it.
3) Monsters Inc - Kids love monsters and Boo drew in the little girls.
4) Incredibles - Obviously the appeal of Super Heroes has been proven in moviedom by now, so I won't beat this drum.
5) Cars - As my 1 year old's repeated watching of this show daily will attest... cars are cool and quite probably the most marketable of the Pixar properties (they occupy half an aisle in most toy sections at Wal-Mart, Target and Toys R Us if you doubt this claim). 90+ Cars and counting in the standard Die-Cast size, almost as many "mini" versions of the same. Numerous play sets, etc...
6) Finding Nemo - A story about parents who don't want their kids to grow up? Timeless. And cute enough for mass appeal. This led to clown fish popularity to such a degree that most chains charge 3 to 5x what they previously did for the fish.
7) Ratatouille - Did well enough in the box-office but widely considered a merchandising flop. Rats are just good enough to be watchable, but not really something you want a toy of.
8) Wall-E - Kids' love of space and robots is enough to carry practically any film. Even one whose message is so preachy that you come out of the theater feeling like they dropped an anvil on your head...
9) UP - A cranky old man and a boy scout. Hmmm... do kids like to watch grumpy old people? Sure they like balloons... but an old person as a main character? For that matter, do adults really want to watch an old person as a main character in an animated feature?

Great trailer
To Wiz:

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? ITS A DISNEY/PIXAR MOVIE!!! Are you trying to tell me that living toys that can move faster than cars, bug metropolis', doors that portal to the human world, superheroes, rat chefs, living cars, and a 700 year old functioning robot with a personality are more realistic than balloons carrying a house?

Defying logic is one of the things that makes Pixar's movies so wonderful. If you think too hard about it, you lose the joy of the experience. Just because the physics can't possibly apply doesn't mean the movie will be a bomb. If you looked at it that way, then technically ALL disney movies would have bombed.

This movie looks great. Pixar has a great track record and I expect this movie to be no different.

Correction
It seems as if He's got a giant sack of balloons in his backyard If you look at 00:46. so that explains why they look like they were in his house. The rest defies logic in favor of story.

Not quite Myazaki.
Myazaki's movies are good, but many of them take place in entirely other worlds with slightly unreal concepts(a man turned into a pig, a talking cat) PJohn Lasseter helmed the English translations, not the whole studio. Did myazaki make anything like cars, ratatouille, toy story, or Wall-E. I don't think so. Pixar can be trusted to come up with unique ideas, sometimes taking inspiration from others(chuck jones, etc.)

I was watching Meet the Robinsons today, and there were these idiiots who kept pointing out how rediculous everything was, despite how obvious. IT'S A MOVIE!!!!! Either you accept it, or you don't!
by Wiz | November 13, 2008, 7:45PM
Ugh
I'm a huge Pixar fan, but this is clearly a rip-off of Miyazaki themes... a truly talented Japanese animator (Studio Gibli... wiki it). If you think it's a stretch, you don't know Pixar. Pixar's head is a huge fan of Miyazaki and was in charge of the English dubs of his most recent films (distributed by Disney). As a fan of both creators, it's obvious.

Never mind suspension of disbelief and ignoring physics that even IF the baloons could supply enough lift (which they can't)... and even IF the house could maintain cohesion from centralized stress (which it couldn't)... how could he STORE those balloons in his home without it lifting his house off before he was "ready?"

Chalk this one up to Pixar's first real bomb.

Love it, but..
This film will also be in Disney Digital 3-D animation, which can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Personally, I think 3-D is too much of a gimmick, something ol'neo-Disney would use to appeal to kids who care more for stunning visuals than a good, heart-warming story. Was the decision to use Digital 3-D influenced by neo-Disney, or did Pixar simply want to try it in their new movie? Let's hopes it's the latter folks, because I really don't want this film to be another bad Disney movie.
by andy.minor | November 10, 2008, 3:24PM
will it ever get old? (no)
that was the first thought that crossed my mind as I was waiting for the trailer to load... "Can Pixar keep pulling out hits...?"

Yes. They can.

Count me in.

Looks like a must see....
Another great movie coming out by Pixar Monster Inc was good plus so many other films that they have done . Just makes you wonder what you do with a house flying with ballons? How do you land ?
by ajmrowland | November 8, 2008, 8:53PM
Pixar rules
I'm surprised they didn't put this before Wall-E.

That aside, the film looks like another creative story-telling masterpiece from Pixar.

wow. simple that. I love it!

Pixar rocks!
This looks like it will be another classic from Pixar. You just know that Steve Jobs is rolling in the dough! Can't wait to see it! Disney is lucky they bought Pixar because Disney doesn't do much else...

By the way I added a link to this trailer here: http://votemotion.com/links/5021/

Thank you...
Great Trailer from Pixar. I suppose, it will be the next really big Blockbuster within Animated Films. Looking forward to see it :-)
