Rebuttal,please
You know what. Your all correct in your reaction to my post. Re -reading it (probably should have done that before posting) my point is dull. Sorry.
I just am frusterated that there are so many great projects that don't have green lights because of all the "Re-dos" of stuff that has been proven successful already. I'm sure this will not suck by it's own right but I'm getting bored with the do-overs when stuff like Whedon's "Cabin In The Woods" is still sitting on a shelf somewhere.
Does that justify the rant a bit ?

stop whining
Regardless if this is a remake or an adaption of the book (which it is) the release of this version has no effect on the original release. Those films will still exist and people can still watch and enjoy them. People get so bent out of shape over remakes or adaptations like it is some sort of personal insult to them that somebody dare have another vision for a story.

If you don't like this adaptation then just watch the originals, nobody is going to take that away from you. In the off chance that you might want to see another take on the book then you can watch this film, just don't act like it's an insult that there is another version of a story out there.

It wouldn't hurt to see both, Swedish & U.S. Relea
If anything, this U.S. Release, to me, is a compliment to the Swedish Release.

Obviously David Fincher has plenty of references to base his vision of these stories, he has the Original Releases. I'm sure if a popular U.S. movie (especially a Trilogy) was re-made (yes, re-made) from another film maker from another country, there would be some sort of out pouring for them NOT to do it, or some sort of boycott. There would be those that say the U.S. Release(s) were great, and it wasn't necessary for some other studio to do this.

I like the Original Release as well and may even find it better than this, but I'll have to wait and see for myself... but I also don't mind seeing another film maker, especially a good one like David (Fincher), take a gander at telling a very popular story with his film style.

BTW: After seeing the Original, from the looks of this trailer, David (Fincher) definitely is telling his story very closely to that of the Original. There are a lot of similar scenes depicted with the same results. This is a U.S. Release inspired by an Original Release, so yes, it is a re-make.

Finch... should say it all
Tara B. unless you're from Sweden, I can't see why you hold the original films in such high regard. Obviously nobody here agrees with you, and I assume we're all movie buffs here. Fincher has better resources, experience, and a vision that will most likely surpass the Swedish films. This isn't a remake. It's a different take on adapting a story, and I can tell by this trailer that the story seems to play out quite differently - probably closer to the novels, but I never read them. Anyway, you don't have to watch the movie if you don't want to. Complaining accomplishes nothing, save for our annoyance.

Next hollywood can redo ,say, Pirates of the Carribean starring someone else as Jack Sparrow because once a role is brillantly cast and performed the perfectly good first version should be immediatly redone for NO GOOD REASON AT ALL.. Read the subtitles and swallow the "Real" Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. This version is as unneccesary as it is insulting.
