Graphics NovelTo my understanding, there is a graphics novel to the movie called countdown. To my knowledge this is to be a prequel to the movie. I found it at star trek gift shop. I don't know if there will be a mini series on this as the name implies. For those of all who wish to see this, here is the link to where I found the book

I have not read it yet. So I can't tell you if its any good.

Looks CoolI'm not a Trek fan, but this looks cool. So it'll likely blow big time.

Star Trek: Pre-TOSI've been a Trekker for 30 years, and I'm excited about this movie. Trek needs something different and this looks like a good direction. And keep in mind that budget constraints on TOS as well as a special effects industry trying to really figure out what special effects really could do, kept Trek from a more streamlined look.

TrekI don't know why the Taliban are targeting Israel.....they should bomb Hollywood for treading on sacred ground with slick, shallow repackageing of classic material. Sure the effects, design and pacing might be more in tune with todays mobile phone/X Box genreration but it is esentially a bastardisation of unique and original materail with another attempt at lazy, risk free enteratinment. The western world is drowning in it 's own cultural stagnation.

Star TrekIt's not a question of looking for old famiiliar faces, or even expecting them to be present, but appreciate the warmth these characters have brought us for the last 40-odd years, re-captured again, for the generation that to follow. Case in point, the pre-quels to Star Wars. Ewan McGreggor's interpretation of the character Alec Guiness made famous was probably McGreggor's best acting. The idea that Spock gets pissed off with Kirk (unless I misinterpreted the trailers [pon-far anyone?]), Kirk driving a car (in the episode "A Piece of the Action" he comments that he had never driven a car before, and here he is driving a car in the film as a kid) - need I mention "SIBERIUS?" WTF!?!?!?
Recycled, reinterpreted, re-imaged, whatever you wish to call it... Hollywood should leave well alone and not tamper with characters to be 're-vamped.' I can appreciate the idea of bringing them back for some more sci-fi, but honestly, don't change that which is already perfect. I can only hope that I mis-read the trailers, and they appreciate what the likes of McGreggor did for Obiwan... respect and homage to what is already established!

This is a "Re-imagined" Star Trek beginning...Guys...you can't walk into this movie thinking/believing that you're somehow going to see the old familiar faces of Kirk and Spock Bones and the rest of the gang.
That can't be the expectation or you WILL be sorely disappointed and absolutely hate the film.
This is a "new" updated vision/version of the Star Trek mythos that is "based" on the characters and their history before the Original series.
This is a beginning that's set before Kirk even dreams of being a captain....
Hopefully by the end of this 1st film the setup will be complete and in movie # 2 we'll see some of the mannerisms and character interaction we've all been fans of for so long.
But I guarantee that regardless of how well the film is done there will be differences, the actors I'm sure were told to model after, NOT imitate the original cast.
This is a NEW version much like the new Battlestar Galactica...enough to be quite familiar but it obvious truth a very different show.
The intent here is to not re-make the original series as it was down to the last detail, rather breathe a breath of fresh air into the franchise and hopefully boldly go again in search of new adventures with a new generation.
I hope that if we judge the movie on it own and not be picking out the differences that we'll enjoy the film and give the new version a chance!
Regards 2 All the ST fans out there!

Star TrekThe first series was a "mega" hit because of the interaction of the 3 main characters. Kirk, Spock & McCoy represented the Adult, Critical Parent, & Free Child found in Transactional Analysys. If this is remembered and present in the movie, it too will be a hit. If not, then we will have an audiovisual rollercoaster ride, which will be insufficient for those rare humans who like to think.

Star TrekThis is beginning to look like an attempt to re-write history for retards. I've watched Star Trek for most of my life, each and every series, and this looks NOTHING like the original. It is not difficult to get a visually stunning looking film these days (most of the films were, in particular Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan), but writing is the key to every good story - ESPECIALLY the original series. Given that J.J. Abrams had never even seen an original episode, how is it possible to remain true to some of the greatest characters television has ever known (let alone film for that matter).
This trailer and all of the other trailers scares me, and if you call yourself a Star Trek fan, then you should be equally scared.

Action! It seems to be much more action-y than i'm guessing most star trek fans would like it to be. But for me it just means it'll be less boring :P

AgreedAgreed. This trailer looks sweet!

the new movieI am looking forward to it, it has a fresh feel to it, the little I can actually see. my computer chokes on this stuff, I guess it's just too old
I read the warnings it may not hold to canon but if it lives I am prepared to accept that. Personally I would rather have a living breathing trek than none at all.. For me its the big ideas that count and if this film brings a dying franchise back to life I can accept canon violations
