Sofia (Carmen Maura) is a woman in her sixties living with her husband Alfred (Gustavo Angarita) in a cold, quiet village in the Andes. She has never seen the sea and has always dreamt of going there. Year after year, Alfred promises to take her to the Caribbean, but their plans are always thwarted by life's unexpected changes and year after year he puts it off, until finally one day, Sophia decides to go alone, leaving Alfred to face the enormous challenges of living day to day without her.
