April Burns (Katie Holmes) is living in New York City and although she knows next to nothing about cooking has invited her dysfunctional family to her small apartment for a potentially disastrous Thanksgiving dinner. Her mother (Patricia Clarkson) is dying of cancer and this could be the last time the whole family gets together.
