Moon

Trailer

Upscale Font Trailer for Moon.

Moon follows Sam Bell, an astronaut assigned by Lunar Industries to a three-year mission mining Helium 3 on the moon, the earth's new energy source. As his contract comes to an end and Sam's health starts to deteriorate, painful headaches, hallucinations and a lack of focus lead to an almost fatal accident. While recuperating, Sam meets a younger, angrier version of himself, who claims to be there to fulfill the same three- year contract Sam started all those years ago.

What it is
I agree that there are loads of movies with few differences that are the same/predictable story. However, the most typical ignorance (and weakest trait) that follows for film "critics" is to become so cynical that you're ignorant to the fact that you've lost an understanding of film genre. Ultimately, you become out of touch with your perception, so much so that it's inane to deny that you then have difficulty enjoying film altogether, so you don't admit it to yourself out loud. Don't kid yourself that others can't see it. It's an easy path to follow, but it's also the most laziest minded habit. Take some time off. Relearn how to think for yourself, and realize that you've willingly replaced your ability to have free thought with ignorance. Relearn how to enjoy film. Or better yet, write and direct film yourself; with the integrity you currently feign to have.

All that aside, this film was great. Sam Rockwell was perfect for the part. I'm not much a fan of Kevin Spacey's work over the past decade, but he's simply got a speaking part in the film. This is one of the films that could easily be spoken of with refigure for years (even if in independent groups). It's worth its attention.

pastiche_obviousplot_genius
you who crap on about this film being derivative or obvious or whatever, the filmmaker isn't trying to entertain people like you. this is a film of both heart and mind, and all of you 'clever film buff' naysayers just fuck off- you wouldn't get it anyway
by thevoiceofreason | July 8, 2009, 5:17PM
Seriously though...
Acting like genius because you claim the movie is just a combination of two films the writer/director has admitted influence from doesn't make you a the smartest person alive. And it doesn't mean that the movie is in fact melded carbon copy of both either. Any movie that is set in space is "2001" to people like you.

Thanks genius!
An obvious pastiche of [insert two classic sci-fi films here] because I want to look like a genius who knows everything! There couldn't possibly be anything remotely original or interesting in this because I watch other movies - it's so obvious it's a rip-off of everything, including ME!

Duncan Jones Moon
When is this movie coming out? I just hear how good it's going to be or how much of a clone it is to other movies. But I can't seem to find when the movie's supposed to come out.

Looks interesting and origingal

obvious plot?
I hope this trailer is a deception on some level because what it looks like is hes just one of many clones placed on the moon with false memories to make him work hard for three years before they destroy him.

Flash Sucks
Obvious pastiche of 2001 and Blade Runner.

Solaris
More of like "Solaris" written by Stanislaw Lem back in the day and then made into a movie with George Clooney by Sodenbergh. Still a good piece.

Music
Clint Mansell again creates a EPIC soundtrack.

Strangly Familiar
This looks an awful lot like a short story I recently read in George R.R. Martins Dreamsongs Vol 1 compilation. I can't remember the name of the story but I wonder if anyone has read Dreamsongs and would agree with me.

Re: Sunshine
That's EXACTLY what I thought.

But I still can't wait for it.

Sunshine
I can't help but be reminded of Sunshine. Right down to the character shaving his beard and getting a hair cut. This still looks superb though.
