Cobalt Blue takes us through the silent passions harbored by two generations of a small fishing community in a remote island of Okinawa. Fatally ill, Tokyo pianist Yukiko Morishita (Misato Tanaka), comes to this island, falls in love with a fisherman (Kuranosuke Sasaki), and dies after giving birth to their daughter, Ryoko (Masami Nagasawa).
