In this moving coming-of-age tale, sixteen-year-old Alda and her sister Maria, 17, arrive in Lisbon seeking refuge from the Angolan Civil War. With none to turn to or trust, except each other, the sisters must quickly adapt to life in a European city. Faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges at regular intervals, they try to pick up survival skills in the hope of building a new life. Just when they're about to give up, the sisters are faced with tragic news that will play a pivotal role in them deciding their ultimate destiny.
