This brilliant documentary, a Grand Jury Prize winner at Sundance, explores the legal framework for Israel's 45-year military 'rule of law' in the Occupied Territories. The Israeli Defense Force enforces the law in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, a process that has been legitimised by the passage of time. The architects of the system - military judges and attorneys, including a former president of the Israeli Supreme Court - submit to a series of uncomfortable interviews in which they are asked to consider the consequences of the laws they crafted. To quote one of the interviewees: "As a military judge, you don't just represent justice. You represent the authorities of the occupation, vis-à-vis a population that sees you as the enemy… It's an unnatural situation. As long as it's only temporary, fine. But when it goes on for 40 years?"
