Trailer for The Duel.

In the Great Plains during 1880s, Texas Ranger David Kingston is sent to an Old West frontier town Helena to investigate a series of murders and disappearances of local people. In the town, preacher Abraham Brant is keeping all the townsfolk in some kind of fearful grip.

The film's original title was "By Way of Helena".

Nicholas Hoult, Joel Edgerton and Jamie Bell were once attached to star in the film in 2013.

Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson are no strangers, the two have starred together in the Hunger Games movie franchise.

Ever since I saw Tombstone, I have been a fan of Westerns. We have seen a resurgence in the Wester, but in many different formats:

The Hateful Eight - gritty vicious film
Jane Got A Gun - classic style Western
The Homesman - classic style Western
The Ridiculous 6 - comedy
The Magnificent Seven - due out later this year

From this trailer The Duel looks to take on the classic gritty nature of the Western genre. This can be a tough line to walk, but from what we have seen so far it looks, it looks to be on the right track.

I think picking Woody Harrelson as the bad guy, "The Preacher, is an excellent choice. He looks to carry the film as I am worried about what Liam will bring. I have never thought of him as a serious actor. He is more suited for action films like Huger Games where acting is not as important to a film like this. But, this is his chance to show audiences everywhere if he has the acting chops or not.
