Description

Excerpt from the documentary The Commoners.

In 1890, a wealthy eccentric named Eugene Schieffelin collected every bird mentioned by Shakespeare and released them into Central Park. The only one to survive was the European Starling. Today, the starling is among the commonest birds in America and gaining in numbers all the time. Schieffelin's folly is now considered a major environmental disaster.
