The Comedian Trailer (2017)

An aging comic icon, Jackie (Robert De Niro), has seen better days. Despite his efforts to reinvent himself and his comic genius, the audience only wants to know him as the former television character he once played. Already a strain on his younger brother (Danny DeVito) and his wife (Patti LuPone), Jackie is forced to serve out a sentence doing community service for accosting an audience member. While there, he meets Harmony (Leslie Mann), the daughter of a sleazy Florida real estate mogul (Harvey Keitel), and the two find inspiration in one another, resulting in surprising consequences.

This is what they call a shotgun film. It was filmed in just 27 days! The cast had to endure very long days to finish this fast.

The second movie in which Robert De Niro will play a comedian. The other movie was The King of Comedy.

The lead female character Harmony, played by Leslie Mann, had a few actresses attached to role before Mann was finalized. Kristen Wiig was firs cast in the lead role. Wiig was later replaced by Jennifer Aniston, but she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts and Leslie Mann was cast.

The Comedian will mark the sixth film featuring Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel together. They previously starred together in:

Mean Streets
Taxi Driver
Falling in Love
Copland
Little Fockers

This film has me torn. When you look at the cast list, you are in awe. It if jam packed with well known and amazing actors. So, going into the trailer I am already excited to see what they have to offer.

And then the trailer starts and the while watching the first third I am thinking to myself that looks horrible. It feels like an indie film you would see on the Lifetime channel. But then in the second half of the trailer it starts to come together and pick up steam. We get to see some funny moments and where they story is heading.

Hearing that the film was shot in just 27 days, you can definitely tell. I am not sure how all of these well known actors were talked into doing this film, but this is not enough for me to catch this film in theaters. The Comedian is a film you could watch on Netflix.
