  • Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier's, documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl.
  • Marilyn Monroe is coming to England and is greeted with great excitement by the British press. The cast and crew of The Prince and the Showgirl are equally in awe. Colin Clark, a young film student, has managed to gain himself a job on the film. His first task is to find somewhere for Marilyn to stay during her time in England. He finds two houses, in case the press find out where she is staying. Colin goes on a date with a wardrobe assistant but, he is so captivated by Marilyn, he ends up ignoring her.Marilyn has brought her acting coach with her to help during the production. However, Lawrence Olivier is becoming increasingly impatient with her incompetence and lateness to set. Fragile Marilyn seeks solace in Colin; she finds him comforting and kind. When she runs away from her troubles, she invites Colin to stay with her. At first they have a lot of fun, they take a tour of Windsor Castle and go skinny dipping. However, her mood soon darkens as struggles with her problems - her fame, her need to be loved, and her desire to be a great actress - appear. Colin gets caught up in her neurotic behavior, as he seeks to protect her.Olivier recognizes that, although Marilyn will never be a great actress, she is most definitely a great movie star.
