First she stole his theories. Then his heart.
Bickford Shmeckler (Patrick Fugit) is a lonely college student who keeps a journal of his philosophical ideas and theories. One night, during a party, his book is stolen by Sarah Witt (Olivia Wilde), which causes him to freak out. The next day he discovers the location of the person who took his book and begins to run around campus trying to find it.Meanwhile, the owners of a comic book store read the book and fall in love with it, going as far as selling related merchandise. While high on marijuana Sarah picks up a copy of the book and upon realizing what it was begins to hallucinate. After departing the hospital she shows her copy to Bickford who later confronts the comic store owners about his journal. With his journal safe in hand he begins to finally write the elusive final chapter while struggling with all the events that have taken place.
