London is drowning, and piano player/petty thief Art lives by the river. A series of floods have left the city a gritty, waterlogged nightmare, lorded over by a mad impresario whose grotesque Halloween fete offers Art an opportunity to earn a much-needed penny. Meanwhile, unseasonably sunny Sal stumbles onto the party’s catering crew and after a brief dust-up outside the club and a cautiously shared chicken thigh, Art and Sal become an amiable odd couple. On a quest to gather enough scratch to sail for Egypt, the two compadres, pilgrims sans progress, embark on a series of increasingly bizarre and perilous adventures in the underbelly of the city, encountering a host of extraordinary characters along the way.
