Prom Night Trailer (2008)

Donna's senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life, one of magic, beauty, and love. Surrounded by her best friends, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns from magic to murder there is only one man who could be responsible...the man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer, and survive their Prom Night.

Scout Taylor-Compton was considered for the lead role of Donna. She did star in the remake of Halloween and its sequel. She also auditioned for the remake of Friday the 13th. Brittany Snow ended up with the role of Donna.

The film is a remake of the original Prom Night in name only. The plot is not the same as the original and the characters are different, although both do have the basic concept of teenagers being stalked and killed on prom night. Prom Night holds the distinction of being the first PG-13 slasher film. The film When a Stranger Calls, another remake, does not count because the killer did not use a knife.

The mild content was one of the things that bothered critics and audiences. Despite critical failure and audiences distaste for the film, it did earn over twice its budget of $20 million.

Prom Night Trailer Screencap

The trailer for Prom Night is kind of brilliant as it starts out with a cover of Cindy Lauper’s “Time after Time” as a soundtrack to some sweet moments of the memorable events of prom. A few teenagers talk about vapid things like what color their dresses are and how important the night is going to be since they are teenagers and they genuinely believe this is a huge deal even though it will surely not live up to their expectations and someone will probably end up crying in the bathroom by night’s end. To make prom a little more interesting, why not throw a psychopath in the mix to try to kill all the attractive young people?

Brittany Snow plays a teenager who appears sweet and as pure as the actress’s last name, but has a dark history because apparently some old guy became obsessed with her a few years earlier and now he is out of prison. Prom just got a whole lot more interesting. The teens decide to get a hotel suite which makes sense because the prom is going on in the hotel so it certainly makes things convenient but when there is a crazy person looking to kill you and your friends, you might not want to be so open to staying in a place that uses a key cards to enter. It may also be a good idea to avoid making friends with the girl who has a stalker, it really is just a good survival tip.

The trailer for Prom Night is by-the-book horror. Brittany Snow is a likeable actor and the other characters appear to be satisfying victims. Prom Night is not quite a remake of a Jamie Lee Curtis film who is THE Scream queen so there is no reason to try to live up to the original, and judging by the trailer that was definitely not their intention.
