Trailer for Max Rose, starring Jerry Lewis, Annie Rose and Kevin Pollak.
A jazz pianist makes a discovery after the death of his wife that causes him to believe his sixty-five year marriage was a lie. He embarks on an exploration of his own past that brings him face to face with a menagerie of characters from a bygone era.
Though Max Rose has only made its way to the United States in 2016, a finished version of the film screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival as a tribute to Jerry Lewis. The first screening the film received in the US took place at the Museum of Modern Art, which celebrated the comedian's 90th birthday.
Drama is Jerry Lewis's first appearance in a feature in over fifteen years.
While the trailer for Max Rose presents what looks to be a respectable, yes depressing drama, these types of stories always seem to make me enter into an early midlife crisis. Any film where you have an aged individual looking back on life and the difficulties of growing old, it's hard not to get bummed out. Doubtful a story like this will have the masses racing to the theaters -- and a likely reason for the domestic delay and limited release -- but Jerry Lewis and supporting cast could find a draw once released for home viewing.
