Though Matt Damon claimed in May, 2017, that the Jason Bourne franchise was done by stating, "We have ridden that horse as far as we can," both he and greengrass agreed to a fourth installment in 2008. As most can guess, that plan fell through, opening up the door for The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner. After the release of the fourth installment, Universal Picture confirmed that more Bourne films were on the way, taking another two years to confirm Damon's return to the franchise.
