First teaser trailer for the 2017 film Guardians, starring Sebastien Sisak, Anton Pampushnyy, Sanzhar Madiyev and Alina Kiziyarova.
Set during the Cold War, a secret organization named "Patriot" gathered a group of Soviet superheroes, altering and augmenting the DNA of four individuals, in order to defend the homeland from supernatural threats.
The group includes representatives of the different nationalities of the Soviet Union, which each one of them have long been hiding their true identity. In hard times, they settled down to business and gather to defend their homeland.
Guardians is directed by the same guy who gave us American Heist. It would seem that Sarik Andreasyan prefers foreign productions. And though Guardians has yet to hit theaters, a sequel is already in the works.
First off, I can't help but draw a Night Watch comparison when watching the Guardians teaser trailer. When one hears that the film is fantasy, fighting, heavy CG, characters who morph into animals, and Russian, the comparison is easy to make. But visual effects have come a long way and, while the Night Watch trilogy definitely was groundbreaking in a lot of its effects, there is definitely improvements to be seen here.
Being a teaser, this first trailer does a wonderful job presenting the concept of the film, the lead characters, and a taste of the visual effects. If thirsting for more, be sure to check out the Fight Trailer, which was released at the same time and focuses entirely on one of the "Russian superheroes".
So far, Guardians looks pretty damn cool, leaving us to wonder what domestic distributor would be game to pick it up. Screen Gems maybe?
