One week after a seemingly minor car accident, Richard Minnich woke up one morning with total amnesia, no longer able to recognize his wife or children or to perform the simplest of tasks. The doctors were baffled, as there was no evidence of brain damage or other physical causes. For Richard's family, the event marked the beginning of a never-ending nightmare. Sixteen years later, filmmaker Rick Minnich-the eldest son from Richard's first marriage-returned home in search of answers as to why Richard still hadn't recovered his memory. Investigating his father's past through revealing, and at times, tense interviews with his family members, Rick reconstructs events before and after the accident, unearthing many deep-rooted emotions that had never been dealt with and uncovering startling facts that shed a very different light on his father's condition. Impressionistic, passionate, and objective all at once, Forgetting Dad is a fascinating investigation into one man's familial dysfunction.
