Trailer for Fanie Fourie's Lobola.
What happens when an Afrikaans guy and a Zulu girl fall in love and have to navigate their way through the complicated process of lobola, a South African tradition that finds the groom’s family negotiating for the bride’s hand? When Fanie Fourie, a young Afrikaner who designs custom cars that resemble African animals, accepts a dare to take a beautiful Zulu entrepreneur, Dinky Magubane, to his brother’s wedding the stage is set for romance. She accepts on the condition that Fanie pretends to be her boyfriend so that she can stop her deeply traditional father from pressuring her into marriage. Of course, as Dinky and Fanie start to fall in love their hoax to annoy their families becomes a meaningful relationship. But can it transcend their cultural differences, family politics, and especially, the thorny tradition of lobola?
